Towards independant living...

Pamela House is a large Victorian building located in Birmingham 's eastern suburbs. Its full-time staff invest a great deal of their time and effort in helping residents learn or relearn basic life-skills such as cooking, shopping and managing money. Residents are encouraged to participate in these and other household duties as a preparation for independent living.

The maximum capacity of Pamela House is 15 residents but the number is usually around a dozen. They range in age from 16 upwards.

Residents come to Pamela House for a variety of reasons, some arriving via our Emergency Women's Nightshelter at Washington Court, and others are referred by council departments or the local police. Schizophrenia and alcohol abuse are quite common, as are eating disorders and self-injury. Some of the residents come with a legacy of prostitution and drug addiction. We also house many who have been victims of domestic violence.
