Supported House

South Court is a supported house which accommodates six single older homeless men. The age range is 45+. We seek to address the needs of anyone who is vulnerable and has lived an unsettled way of life.

Criteria

South Court House caters for any male posing a higher risk to harm/abuse because of their physical or emotional state or mental disability. It is suited to people with a history of living within a hostel environment who need support in working towards a better quality of life or independence. Service users on medication must be able to take responsibility for administering their own medication.

Preference is given to service users who have previously lived within a hostel environment or have been homeless or unable to sustain their own tenancy because they are in need of the level of provision and support that South Court makes available.

We operate on a key-working basis and provide support through the care plan approach. Service users are expected to co-operate fully with the support on offer. All service users must agree to work together with their support worker and agree to be actively involved in the daily smooth running of the house.

South Court seeks to address all the needs of the service user and concentrates particularly on life skills such as personal hygiene, laundry, paying bills, budgeting money, cooking, shopping, college course training and all skills leading to normalisation. If a service user reaches the point where he is ready to live independently, the support worker would then offer resettlement service.

South Court House is a partnership project based within the Mount Pleasant Court complex, owned by Trident Housing Association. It is managed by Birmingham City Mission.
