Not just a bed for the night ....

Our modern purpose-built centre is a unique 'move-on' project meeting the needs of single homeless people. It brings together the expertise of Trident Housing Association in providing good quality housing with BCM's long experience of care provision for the homeless.

Our main aim is to provide high quality direct access short term accommodation and services for men and women aged 18 and over.

Accommodation

Comprises 45 fully furnished single rooms in 5, 6, 7 or 8 bedroom single-sex cluster flats, each flat having a communal TV lounge, kitchenette, bathroom, shower and toilets. Extra facilities for the use of all residents include the dining room, games room, lounge/TV room and Launderette. The use of a workshop is invaluable. Dedicated Christian staff are available to support, advise and help residents with their needs 24 hours a day. At least 2 staff members are on duty at all times, to manage and ensure safety and security.

Resettlement
In-house support and advice is provided to equip and enable residents to obtain suitable, more permanent accommodation. The BCM Resettlement team interviews all residents, and gives support with housing applications and follow-up. In addition to this support needs are addressed.

Projects
Projects give residents an aim in life and teach them new skills which will hopefully be useful when the time comes for moving on. With the help of Bournville College our residents and Resource Centre clients completely redesigned and planted the main courtyard at Washington Court. Many thanks to Bournville College. Our woodworking shop is busy most of the time. Residents are able to be directly involved in producing items for either themselves or Washington Court. This includes straightforward carpentry as well as furniture restoration, picture framing and repair.

Special needs
Washington Court is specifically designed and staffed to provide for the special needs of the homeless who have experienced being roofless (on the streets) or homeless (no settled accommodation) due to a crisis in life, domestic breakdown, alcohol or drug abuse, mental illness or simply an inability to cope on their own.
