The Golden Cross narrowboat

Day trips and holidays for those who cannot normally afford

The first full summer season for John and Kathryn Hackett, owners of the Golden Cross narrowboat, has ended. Between May and September they have had about 150 people aboard, and spent over 60 days cruising the Midlands canals.

The peaceful atmosphere on board and the freedom from all interruptions provide the ideal environment for one-to-one discussion and counselling.  For homeless clients it is a welcome change of scene right away from the city, with all that this means to them in terms of situation and lifestyle.  Conversation just flows in this setting and people have been genuinely surprised by how much they have gained from the experience, both socially and spiritually.

The narrowboat has already been used for short breaks for BCM staff, weeks away for people contacted by our workers, and induction trip for the Children's Team and a holiday for a group from 'The Ark'.

If you or someone you know would like to make use of the Golden Cross between May and September, please contact the BCM office.
